This will also be a place where I post some of my own covers and originals (yes I do aspire to be like one of those independent artists listed above). Because of this passion I actually bought myself a condenser mike. Recently, my friend has also generously donated a keyboard to me which is really cool. For the year 2012, I'll be picking up singing and keyboard lessons so I'll keep you posted on my progress. I'll be learning Singing at this really cool place that I highly recommend called The Singing Loft, (thesingingloft.com). The founder of this school is Ms Sheryn Chia, whoose a super awesome and talented vocal coach and you can read more about her impressive bio here (http://thesingingloft.com/?page_id=36)
Anyway, for this week, I would like to recommend one of my all time favorite artists, Christina Grimmie! This is one of her older covers of a Katy Perry song called "The one that got away". What I like about this cover is that it irks of originality. Its a totally different rendition done acoustically. What makes it special is that acoustically, more attention can be paid to be the vocals and the emotions behind the words. This version actually makes the lyrics come alive. Did I mention she has great vocals? she starts with a sort of mellow tone and slowly builds up in emotions to reach a peak at 3.55 which really blows my breath away. Listening to the song gives me the experience of going through what the lyricist is feeling. Its strong in its message yet subtle in a sort of contradictory way. A relationship may be lost but the memories still remain and though things can never be the same again, the lyricist is strong in the lessons learnt from the past hurts and the confidence in a new relationship. Its regret meets renew. This, to me, is the hallmark of a good singer. Apart from that she's also an awesome keyboardist! Without further ado, here's the video.
